National Chairman Charles Ouma, Assistant National Secretary Kennedy Mayodi, Nairobi County Secretary Meshack Adiedo, Program Manager Joany Huang, and our Sub-county Coordinators, including Jecinta W. Karani from Upper Kasarani, Evans Onchiri from Westlands, Julius Nyandega from Embakasi Central, Samson Muiva from Embakasi South. Together, we have discussed about the design of four new programs, which are in-service school-based teacher training, school management training, children with special need and parent empowerment. We have all agreed that these programs would greatly benefit our students, through improving management style and the teaching quality, strengthening families and allocating resources for children with special needs. Our goal is to launch the programs as efficient as we could.
Joany has shared her vision on the programs, which is to mobilize the most powerful resources within CASK - our teachers who deeply understand what the community needs and could channel their experience into improving practices of less experienced teachers. During the meeting, we have exchanged ideas on the best practice about program design to adapt to each sub-county’s unique situation. To ensure the sustainability, Charles brought up that before we subsidised teacher training, the Association must sign a contract with the teachers to avoid high turn-over rate after the training. In addition, we went through the teaching program preliminary research forms, and discussed how to adjust our forms in order to optimize data-gathering process. Our county leaders and sub-county coordinators agreed to disseminate and collect the forms to all our member schools within one week’s time.
Our meeting briefly touched upon programs on parent empowerment and children with special need. Sub-county coordinator Julius and Jacinta has shared their experience on hosting community workshops for parents, from which we had the idea of how to best motivate our parents.
After our discussion on the programs design, we drafted the agenda for our next meeting after the feedback forms are collected from our member schools, in order to start discussing the programs in more details.
